Hands-on Experiments at the VR-2 subcritical assembly (CTU)
Hands-on Experiments at the VR-2 subcritical assemly (CTU)
Date:
27.10.2025 – 30.10.2025 (4 working days)
Venue:
Department of Nuclear Reactors, CTU, Prague, Czechia
Organizer:
Czech Technical University in Prague CTU, Czechia, under the management of the European Nuclear Experimental Educational Platform (ENEEP)
Language:
English
Purpose:
The course is focused on the application of various experiments at the VR-2 subcritical assembly to study its neutron-physical parameters and behavior. During the course, students will learn about advanced methods for measuring reactivity in a subcritical reactor and determining its changes.
Participants’ qualifications:
The course is aimed at students in master’s degree programs and early Ph.D. students studying nuclear engineering, as well as young professionals in this field. The level of the course can be tailored to according to the needs of the participants.
Course program:
- Monday, 27.10.2025
- Welcome, course opening, pre-test
- Visit to the VR-2 subcritical assembly and associated infrastructure
- Tuesday, 28.10.2025
- Exercise I – Reactivity measurement by Source-Jerk method and study of spatial effects in the VR-2 subcritical assembly
- Exercise II – Reactivity measurement by Pulsed Neutron Source methods in the VR-2 subcritical assembly - application of Simmons-King, Sjöstrand, Gozani, and Garelis-Russell methods
- Wednesday, 29.10.2025
- Exercise III – Study of the moderator level effect on the reactivity of VR-2 subcritical assembly
- Exercise IV – Study of the moderator temperature effect on the reactivity of the VR-2 subcritical assembly
- Thursday, 30.10.2023
- Exercise V – Study of the absorbing materials on the reactivity of the VR-2 subcritical assembly
