Train the trainers (GA-3)

GA3: Train the trainers (STU, BME, JSI)

Date:

28. 08. 2022 – 07. 09. 2022 (9 working days)

Venue:

Bratislava, Slovakia

Budapest, Hungary,

Ljubljana, Slovenia

Organisers:

Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Jožef Stefan Institute, as members of the European Nuclear Experimental Educational Platform (ENEEP)

Language:

English

Purpose:

The ENEEP “Train the Trainers” Course is intended for demonstrators, lecturers, university professors and trainers from industrial companies involved in education and knowledge management activities, wishing to gain additional experience in education activities. The course will consist of both simulation and experimental activities. Some specific capabilities and uniqueness of each institution in education and training activities will be demonstrated via particular tasks and exercises. The simulation part is devoted to reactor core calculations where basic operational and safety parameters are calculated. Fundamentals of the cross section data processing, Monte Carlo method and data post-processing will be presented and the influence to calculation performance will be demonstrated. Subsequently, the reactor experiments are designed to connect the simulations to practice. Basic parameters, which can easily be calculated, will be measured and respective experimental methods demonstrated. Hands-on experimental experience supported by the calculations should be essential part of the skills not only for scientists, but especially for lecturers, and engineers working in the nuclear industry.

Eligible countries (Grant application requirement):

27 European Union countries, Norway, Iceland, Lichtenstein, Switzerland, The United Kingdom, Serbia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, and North Macedonia

Participants’ qualifications:

The course is aimed at trainers from industrial companies, university lecturers and professors teaching nuclear engineering, nuclear physics or numerical simulations. It is also suitable for teachers and lecturers of power engineering, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering involved in education programmes including subjects related to nuclear engineering or nuclear power plants.

Course programme:

The course consists of three parts, each being 3 working days long.

The course will start in Bratislava at the Slovak University of Technology, with introductory lectures on reactor simulations, followed by exercises utilizing general purpose and macro codes. In each exercise, calculations of specific reactor parameters will be performed, e.g. criticality, temperature and void coefficients of reactivity and neutron flux distributions.

The course will continue at the training reactor of the Budapest University of Technology and at the TRIGA reactor at Jožef Stefan Institute in Ljubljana, Slovenia. The experimental part of the course will consist of exercises aimed at demonstrating in practice particular aspects covered by the simulations and, additionally, demonstrate different measurement techniques. All the exercises will highlight particular aspects, relevant to pedagogic activities.
